Delicious SEOUL Story – The Uniqueness of Tteokbokki

This is how I show my passion and love to KOREAN FOOD ^^
Tteokbokki is Korean street food that really famous in Korea nowadays since many foreigners love it

Details of The Recipe

Main Ingredients
• 2 Cups Sticky Rice Cake Sticks
• 2 Fish Cakes
• 1 Cup Cabbage
• 1 Cup Potato
• 1 Cup Wood Ear Mushroom
• ⅔ Cup Onion
• ½ Cup Carrot
• 1 Cup Green Onion

Sauce Ingredients
• 3 Tbsp Red Pepper Paste
• 1 Tbsp Red Pepper Powder
• ½ Tbsp Sugar
• ½ Tbsp Salt
• 1 ½ Cup Fish Broth
• 1 Cup water

Direction
1. Slice ½ cup worth of an onion into quarter inch pieces. Cut ½ cup worth of a carrot diagonally. Cut 1 green onion into ½-inch pieces. Cut ⅔ cup worth of cabbage into quarter inch pieces.
2. Cut the cooked fish cakes and the sticky rice cakes into 2 inch pieces. On high heat add water and put rice cake, soak them in water for 20 minutes.
3. Fry the garlic and onion until it change the color into light brown.
4. Add the carrot, cabbage, wood ear mushroom, and potato. Cook until they are half cooked.
5. Add rice cake. Cook it for about 5 minutes until the rice cakes become soft on medium-high.
6. Add the fish cakes and cook for 1 more minute.
7. Add the green onion, cook for another minute, and then turn off the heat.

flooding in han river

really sad to hear and see what happen in Seoul recently. after talking with one of my Korean friend who stay in Seoul i felt so gloomy. i only wish that the condition will back to normal soon. I’ve heard that this is the biggest natural disaster after 104 years ago.

non stop raining for three days made flooding in the city and land slide in some area. it killed many people and disturbed almost activities and of course give impact to the Korea’s economy. this is almost same like what happen in Jakarta several years ago, at that time i was in junior high school. i even couldn’t go anywhere and just stay at home waiting for others help.

moreover, i think this year the weather isn’t normal since early of the year there was nonstop raining plus snowing for almost three days. the snow was so thick but the weather wasn’t too cold. umbrella is the most important thing to bring.

anyway, from what happen in Seoul and other parts of countries, it proofs that the earth needs hug from us. let’s give more love to our world

Korean Strawberry (딸기)

I love strawberry since I was a kid. For me strawberry isn’t the ordinary fruit. it has its own taste that can make me feel fresh after eat this fruit. When my second day in Korea last 2009, my Korean friend gave me strawberry and asked me to eat. since that time, i am fall in love with Korean strawberry because wherever i eat strawberry the taste is never be so great like this.

you won't regret once you try it

when spring comes, we can find strawberry everywhere and with cheap price. i used to eat strawberry as my meal during i was in front of my laptop. usually i buy a big box strawberry and spend around 5000 won each box. however, i got the best quality one.

drink coupon

in Daejeon downtown, you can buy strawberry juice only for 1000 won. even if the price is cheap but i guarantee the taste. jinjja masissoyo. it really can make your tongue won’t seek other drink. if you buy one juice, they will give you a coupon. so, next time when you buy again, they will put stamp and after you buy 10 juice or other drink, they will give you one free drink.

Muju Resort (무주 리조트)

Muju resort is one of my favorite place in winter since there environment is so beautiful there. muju is not really far from daejeon, only takes about 1 hour to reach there. muju is nice if we go there on winter because we can play ski in there.

let's slidding!

on December 2009, i went there with my ASEAN friends and some of my chinese and japanese friends. we went there by bus and took around 1 hour to reach Muju Resort. However, at that time the weather wasn’t too cold, so we could play many things.

let's sliding, So!

Snow sliding is interesting game since you can play together in one snow board or you can play alone. Usually there will be a competition that will arrive first. I played the snow sliding with my roomates (So) and also other friends, you can see how this game is so exciting by watching at the video (i’ll upload later).

To play ski, you need to spend around 100000원, to rent the clothes and ski equipments. However, if you want to do another activity in muju, you can try to play snow sliding. Actually it is for kids, but you can also play it.

if anyone of you had watched 국가대표 (Take Off), you will realize that some of the scene was taking in here. This movie become one of the best movie in Summer 2009.

Takalbi Party (닭갈비 파티)

small party meeting old friend…
again i will talk about food, why? because i do a lot of food travelling. this restaurant is located nearby my dormitory.

this is how the takalbi cook

we must wait until several time, so the chicken is cooked. we didn’t order rice because the takalbi is already many. if we eat takalbi means that our clothes will smelly. smell chicken everywhere. hohohoho

the taste of takalbi for me is a bit sweet not really spicy. they put chicken, gojujang, sweet potato, rice cake and cabbage. then we need to mix it. this takalbi will cost you around 7000 won per person.

Kimchi (김치)

i really love korean kimchi. first time i ate kimchi, my tongue couldn’t accept it but because i always eat everyday, so now i am getting used to it.

in Korea, whenever and wherever we eat, they always provide kimchi and we can refill it. just say “kimchi juseyo” they will understand that we want another kimchi.

kimchi is a healthy food. maybe some of foreigner can’t accept kimchi because of the taste and the smell. however, if you come to korea, you must eat kimchi! just taste a bit is enough.

i am in korea again

2 weeks i already in here….now i will write again about my life in korea

but this time, i visit korea just for meeting friends and culinary travelling because i love korean food.

well..i got really cheap ticket to go korea this year..i am so happy because i can meet all my friend again and step on kimchi land. all the visa things and ticket already done. actually i almost can’t go here since my final exam was postponed until the middle of december T.T so hopeless but suddenly they give me good news

14 December 2010 i flied to incheon airport. when the plane touch down the land suddenly i cried. dunno why but i felt like i am going home. yep… Korea is my second hometown. my tears kept wetting my cheeks.

in immigration line, the officer ask me “대전에 어떱게 갈거예요?” then i said “버스로 친구와 같이 갈거예요” hemm good thing my brain work so good, i could answered his question. he asked me like that because i wrote in the arrival card i will stay in daejeon univ dormitory by using hanguel.

after got permit to step in Korea, i prepare for the clothes and everything. so cold outside, they said minus 7 degrees. wew….when i got out from the arrival lounge, i looked for my best friend and yep got it….couldn’t say anything..i only can smile and said “yeay, i’m here”

then i called my mom first that i already arrived in Korea. hahahha….also i talked to other friends…really miss them. after that, we directly went to Daejeon by using bus. it was so cold outside…

yeay!!! finally i arrived in Daejeon (my hometown). everything still the same, only small changes that happen in here so lovely city ^^

tteokbokki was the first meal in Korea. i really love this food
